Blood Orange Martini

recipe by: Martha Stewart

Ingredients

Makes 2

1/2 cup citrus-flavored vodka
1/4 cup freshly squeezed blood orange juice (about 1 orange)
2 tablespoons Simple Syrup
Dried blood orange segments, for garnish

Directions

In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka, juice, and simple syrup with ice; shake well. Strain into 2 martini glasses, and garnish with orange segments.

1 oz. White creme de cacao
½ tsp. Blue curacao

Combine ingredients in mixing glass. add ice, stir to chill and strain into your martini glass.

The Real World---Brooklyn?

So word has just gotten out about the upcoming 21st season of The Real World...it's going to be taking place in Brooklyn, NY. This will be the show's third time filmed in New York. No word yet as to which neighborhood they will be living in.

I'm sort of surprised that they decided to film in Brooklyn. I'm going to probably guess that they'll be in Williamsburg...just because it is one quick stop off the L train and you're in Manhattan. I'm hoping that I run across some of the cast this summer when they start filming.

Apricot-Mango Martini

2 pieces fresh mangos
2 1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz apricot brandy
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

Muddle the fresh mango in the bottom of a mixing glass and add all other ingredients. Shake well with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel, and serve.

Watermelon Kiwi Martini

2 cups cubed seedless watermelon
2 peeled and cut up kiwifruit
4 (or so) shots of absolute vodka (chilled well from the freezer)
8 frozen watermelon cubes
4 fresh mint leaves

Mix all ingredients in a blender except the frozen watermelon cubes and mint. Strain (if desired) into large martini glasses and garnish with toothpicked watermelon cubes and mint leaf.

Notes: This is also deliteful without vodka for those who would like a refreshing summer drink.

Lemon Cream Martini

Lemon drop rimmer (recommended: Stirrings)
2 shots vanilla vodka (recommended: Stoli)
1/2 shot limoncello
Ice cubes
Splash lemon-lime soda (recommended: Sprite or 7-Up)
Blueberries, for garnish

Wet the rim of a martini glass and coat with lemon drop rimmer. Add vanilla vodka and limoncello to a martini shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into martini glass. Add a splash of lemon-lime soda and garnish with fresh blueberries.

1 fluid ounce coconut rum
3/4 fluid ounce vodka
1 fluid ounce pineapple juice
1 dash grenadine syrup

Combine rum, vodka and pineapple juice in a drink shaker. Shake firmly until frothy. Pour in a martini glass, add a touch of grenadine in the middle. Garnish with an orange wheel.

1 part vodka
1 part sour apple Schnapps
1 part apple juice
Sour apple hard candy, for garnish (recommended: Jolly Rancher)
Apple peel curl, for garnish

Pour vodka, Schnapps and apple juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a pitcher or a chilled martini glass.

Drop a sour apple candy in each glass and garnish with a curl of apple peel.

So the rumor has been out there for the last few days that Mariah Carey was engaged to Nick Cannon. Well, looks like the couple secretly wed.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have wed, Latina magazine reports.

The two got hitched in a small ceremony on an island Wednesday, according to the magazine. They quote a source as saying it was "very implusive."

Rapper Da Brat attended, the magazine says.

Cannon's ex-fiancée, model Selita Ebanks, tells Usmagazine.com, "I have no comment but wish them well."

A small ceremony? NOTHING Mariah does is small. Have you seen her apartment on MTV's Cribs? From her I would expect nothing less than a multi-million dollar wedding...and it certainly wouldn't be a secret. Do you think she got hitched, or is this just another rumor???

Chocolate Espresso Martini
by Michael Chiarello

1 lemon wedge
2 tablespoons turbinado sugar (raw sugar)
2 tablespoons finely chopped bittersweet chocolate
4 tablespoons espresso, cooled
1 1/2 ounces best vodka, chilled
1/2-ounce creme de cacao
Long lemon twist

Wipe the rim of a chilled, oversized martini glass with lemon wedge.

Pour sugar and chocolate into a saucer and mix well.

Dip glass rim in mixture and roll to thoroughly coat rim.

Over a large handful of ice in a cocktail shaker, pour espresso, vodka, and creme de cacao. Shake until frothy. Strain into prepared glass. Garnish rim with a twist and stand back.

Alpine Martini

1 1/2 ounces citron vodka
1 (#40) ice cream scoop Douglas Fir Sorbet, recipe follows
1 small cedar frond, garnish

Chill a cocktail glass. Place vodka in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Place a perfectly round scoop of Douglas Fir Sorbet in the bottom of the glass. Stick cedar frond into scoop of sorbet. Pour chilled vodka over the top. Sorbet should float.

For the Douglas Fir Sorbet:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
8 inches Douglas fir (cut into 1-inch lengths)
1 cup water
1 tablespoon gin

Boil first cup of water with sugar and Douglas fir for 10 minutes. Strain and cool.
Add second cup of water and gin.

Churn as directed on your ice cream machine. Garnish with a sprig of Douglas fir.

Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, and Heidi Montag all got together to pose for the cover of Rolling Stone. Yes, you heard me right...Lauren and Heidi agreed to be at the same place for a photoshoot.

Us Weekly reports:

"I really pray for her," Montag told Usmagazine.com.
Conrad's bud, Lauren "Lo" Bosworth (who was also there), defended her pal.
"I wasn't aware that Heidi was an especially religious gal," she snapped. "But if she wants to pray, she can pray all she wants."
When told that Montag is praying for her, Conrad rolled her eyes.
"That’s really nice of her," she said before walking off.

I think the photo that is gracing the cover is super cute...however, Heidi just looks rather awkward in it. The other gals look like they are all having a fun time and there she stands on the end posing. BLECH!

Cheri Oteri's (formerly of SNL) father has been stabbed to death. Gaetano Thomas "Tommy" Oteri, 69, had gotten into a fight Saturday night inside his Nashville home with his roommate/manager/music publisher, William Fagan. Fagen was arrested for the murder of Oteri.

Extensions Are Back

Lauren Conrad showed up at the Absolut 100 Kanye West party with some brand new long locks. I guess long extensions are the in thing for the season (Selma Blair and Rumer Willis were also recently spotted wearing long extensions).
I always thought LC was cute with long hair...but I was really digging her new shorter hairstyle. It made her look a bit more grown up and edgy.

lime wedge for garnish

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well.

Splash sweet and sour mix
Ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake vigorously and strain into chilled martini glass.

So much for sobriety! Lindsay Lohan was out last night at the Hawaiian Tropic Zone in TImes Square where her pal Samantha Ronson was DJing. LiLo danced the night away, while downing Grey Goose and Red Bull.

Geesh...that didn't take long at all. It just goes to show you that if she doesn't change her friends and her partying lifestyle she's not going to stay sober. No matter how strong she thinks she is.

Silver Salmon Martini

1 teaspoon sugar
1-ounce vodka
1-ounce silver rum (recommended: Bacardi)
1/2-ounce pineapple juice
1/2-ounce grape juice
1/2-ounce pink lemonade
1/2 teaspoon caviar or salmon egg roe

Place sugar in a small saucer. Dip the rim of the glass in water and press rim into the sugar to coat.

Mix all ingredients, except caviar or salmon egg roe, in a shaker. Put the caviar on the bottom of the glass and pour the drink over the caviar.

Rumor has it that the terrible two-some wants their own show with all the attention focused on them and their wedding (without Lauren taking over the spot light). Wait, are they even getting married? I thought they are no longer engaged???

Would you watch their show? Personally, I wouldn't. I mean I almost hope they get it just so they are off of The Hills, and I can watch that show in peace.

Today we're bringing a celebrity to The Style File that I just love to pieces: Zooey Deschanel. She has quite an eye for fashion. She's very adventurous with her outfits, but at the same time there really is a simplicity to her wardrobe...and she ALWAYS looks so put together!

When it comes to Zooey's fashion I tend to think of four things:

2) dresses
3) vintage (or vintage-inspired looks)
4) black tights

I'm not sure if this is a wig or if she really went through with coloring her beautiful chocolate tresses...but I do know it is for a movie she is filming: New York, I Love You.

Ali Is The Biggest Loser

Did anyone watch last night's finale of Biggest Loser: Couples on NBC? I had to watch. This is the first season that I really tried to watch this show...and even though I only saw a few episodes here and there I really gotta say, I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
Last night Ali made Biggest Loser history, becoming the first female winner ever. I am so proud that she won. She really deserved it! Such dedication and motivation! She went from 234 lbs. to 122 lbs. (losing 47.86 percent of her body weight). Her prize was $250,000.

Well the rumors are still flying around. Is Ashlee Simpson pregnant with Pete Wentz's child or not? The couple recently announced their engagement, and ever since then the pregnancy rumor has been all over the place. The couple has been dodging questions about this. And just when I thought the rumors were at rest a source tells People Magazine:

not only is Simpson pregnant, but that she's planning to have her wedding in May at a friend's house in La Jolla, Calif., north of San Diego.

Cameron's Dad Passes Away

Our hearts go out to Cameron Diaz and her family. Her father, Emilio Diaz, passed away unexpectedly after he recently developed the flu which then turned into pneumonia. He was 58.
